White couple wanting to adopt their black foster child denied!

Only because I, too, was adopted does this piece of local news really hit home to me.

Local Couple Sues Over Denied Adoption

This black three year old child has been with his white foster family for the majority of his life. The family loves him and wants to adopt him as their son. Not only was the adoption denied, but the child was taken away from his family in what can only be described as a traumatic scene.

The reason:

Chester County in PA has a law about adoption on the books. There can not be more than one a year. Funny thing is, not one official from Chesco can provide written proof of the policy, or even proof of where the policy was ever enforced. (source)

And it is true the couple did just recently adopt a child.

That child was a niece.

Fine! Don't let them adopt the boy. Make them wait a year, if need be. But for Christ's sake, why make the child a victim by taking him away from the only family he has ever known?

If you ask me, that sounds like state sanctioned child abuse.

The couple is now suing the county to get their little boy back. They are stating that the adoption denial, coupled with the removal of their son, was racial motivated.

With all the information that is available on the case, I can't say I disagree.

I'd love to adopt some kids. We can't afford to adopt internationally, and we can't afford to adopt a "healthy infant", so we have looked into adopting an older child. Where we live there are a LOT of native children needing to be adopted, but looking at their profiles, the government only wants to let them be adopted by native families. This whole thing is pretty stupid! It pisses me off!

I really, really don't know why the government insists upon denying love to some children.

It's strange and sad.

This kind of thing makes me really angry.

Usually instigated by some politically correct wankers sat in an office somewhere.

That poor kid - How on earth could it possibly be good for him to be removed from the only loving environment he's ever known?

I hope when he's older, he sue's the state.

That is horrible! I'd be interested in seeing what Pax and Merci have to say, as they work for social services (I know in a different state), they might have more insight into the situation.

I can only hope that they win or that the state gets a clue and caves in quickly. This child's emotions are on the table here and what they (the state) has done is NOT in the best interests of the child.

Clearly the child's best interests were not kept here.

A child that young can still say what they want!

Where's Bowlby when you need him?

they pull that kind of nonsense here all the time too. Why can't the system look out for the kids' happiness? makes me really mad.

Oh I heard the white mom and the child's black biological grandmother both on the Michael Smerkonish radio show and my heart broke listening to them. How they took the child away from the white parents was sooooo cruel.

I am working to advocate for foster children. Please check out my blog and share your insights. It will take all our efforts to speak up for those who cannot speak up for themselves.

that is just simply horrible, I'm crying inside for that little boy and the pain of having your baby wrenched from you. This is something that neither will ever get over (son and parents) and I don't see how the county can possibly see this as being in the best interest of the child. I really do despise these children's aid workers...with a flipping npassion.
